International resolutions supporting Palestine

There have been several international resolutions and declarations supporting the rights of the Palestinian people and addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Here are some of the key ones:

  1. 1 United Nations General Assembly Resolution 181 (1947): This resolution recommended the partition of Palestine into Jewish and Arab states, with an international administration for Jerusalem. While it served as a foundation for the establishment of Israel, it was rejected by the Arab states, and the situation resulted in ongoing conflicts.

  2. 2 United Nations Security Council Resolution 242 (1967): This resolution was passed in the aftermath of the Six-Day War. It emphasized the "inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war" and called for Israeli withdrawal from territories occupied during the conflict in exchange for peace and recognition. It has been the basis for subsequent negotiations.

  3. 3 United Nations Security Council Resolution 338 (1973): This resolution called for a ceasefire in the Yom Kippur War and urged all parties to implement Resolution 242.

  4. 4 United Nations General Assembly Resolution 3236 (1974): This resolution reaffirmed the "inalienable rights of the Palestinian people" and their right to self-determination. It also recognized the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) as the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.

  5. 5 United Nations General Assembly Resolution 3379 (1975): This resolution equated Zionism with racism, a decision that was controversial and eventually revoked in 1991 by UN General Assembly Resolution 46/86.

  6. 6 United Nations Security Council Resolution 1397 (2002): This resolution expressed support for the creation of a Palestinian state and called for a ceasefire during the Second Intifada.

  7. 7 United Nations General Assembly Resolution 67/19 (2012): This resolution upgraded Palestine's status at the United Nations to that of a non-member observer state.

  8. 8 United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334 (2016): This resolution reaffirmed the call for a two-state solution, condemned Israeli settlements in the West Bank, and called for a halt to settlement construction.

  9. 9 United Nations General Assembly Resolution 68/15 (2013): This resolution recognized the state of Palestine and called for the resumption of peace negotiations.
